Ocean Park came from the back of the field to land this year’s Cox Plate at Moonee Valley race track in Melbourne on Saturday.

New Zealand’s Ocean Park edged clear of All Too Hard in the final fifty metres to give jockey Glen Boss his third Cox Plate triumph, winning by a neck in arguably Australia’s most prestigious race, which boasts a purse of A$3million (€2.4million).

An early favourite for the race, Pierro finished third, almost four lengths back from Ocean Park.

"I was in love with this horse the first time I rode him" - Boss

Jockey boss, who now boasts three Cox Plate wins to go with his three Melbourne Cup victories was full of praise for the now four-time Group 1 winner.

Boss said: “This feels like one of my greatest achievements, no doubt, because I picked this colt out and you just feel vindicated.

“I’m really proud of the horse today. He just put in a super effort. I was in love with this horse the first time I rode him at Rosehill last Autumn because his will to win was incredible that day.

“Everyone was trying to pick him to pieces but I kept defending him because he’s a winner.”
