Deep Purple put up a bold front-running performance to take top honours in the Grade Two BGC Noel Novices' Chase for Evan Williams.

The 9-4 second-favourite had won the big novice hurdle on this card 12 months ago and was sent straight to the head of affairs by Paul Moloney as he went in search of his second victory over fences.

He had all his rivals in trouble turning for home and although he went violently left at the final fence, he had plenty in hand and passed the post three and a half lengths clear of Turkish Surprise.
