Manduro cemented his reputation as the best horse in Europe with an impressive victory in the Prix Jacques le Marois at Deauville.

The five-year-old showed he was not inconvenienced by the drop back to a mile when storming to an easy victory in the Group One event.

Pacemaker Toylsome set a strong gallop from the outset with the Andre Fabre-trained Manduro close up and travelling well for Stephane Pasquier.

It was a matter of how far once Pasquier pressed the button, as Manduro made amends for his narrow defeat by Librettist in this race 12 months ago and secured a fourth win in as many starts this season.

Turtle Bowl put in a brave effort but he was fighting a losing battle and was collared close home by Holocene for second spot.
Manduro has victories in the Prix d'Ispahan and Prince Of Wales's Stakes already in the bag and the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe is now the target.

Paul Harley, racing manager to owner Baron Georg von Ullmann, said: 'The Arc has always been the plan and it is very much the plan now. This horse is extremely versatile and he is an exceptional horse. We planned for this race and he has delivered.'

Pasquier added: 'He was really impressive and he won easily. Once he won at Royal Ascot, I realised the Arc was a very much a possibility.'

VC Bet have cut Manduro to 4-1 second favourite from 6-1 for the Arc with Derby winner Authorized their 100-30 favourite. William Hill are slightly longer at 5-1, the same price as Coral, while Ladbrokes go 6-1.

'He's a proper superstar, we were always confident coming into the race and he's proved it today,' Harley later told At The Races.

'I have spoken to the owner and he is over the moon. Although we were very confident before the race it is a relief he has gone and proven himself again.

'We are going to the Arc. It's very much part of the plan - that's the next port of call. It's possible we may go to the Breeders' Cup.'

French Derby winner Lawman was most disappointing, trailing in last of the six runners and VC Bet have now taken him out of their Arc betting.
