Nickname denied Central House successive victories in the Navan Race Supporters Fortria Chase with a gallant success.

Niall Madden brought the Martin Brassil-trained seven-year-old to challenge the long-time leader on the run to the last.

Heading Central House at the final fence, Nickname (6-1) had to be kept to his work to hold Dessie Hughes' charge by three-quarters of a length.

Watson Lake was third.

Brassil said: "Two and a half miles is really his trip but it's a tough two miles here."

The trainer nominated the John Durkan Memorial Chase on December 10 at Punchestown followed by the Paddy Power Dial A Bet Chase at Leopardstown over Christmas as the next races for his charge.

After this victory, Nickname earned a quote of 33-1 with William Hill for the Queen Mother Champion Chase.
