It may be a Classic weekend at The Curragh, headquarters of Irish flat racing, but down in the jumping stronghold of Kells Co. Kilkenny, a memorial is being unveiled today to commemorate the achievements of some of the superstars of the National Hunt world.

The horses in question all originated from the Kells area and include Kellsboro Jack, Nicolaus Silver, Remittance Man, Wayward Lad and Red Rum.

The memorial is in the form of a limestone carved trough which will be situated on the cross at Kells village and is to be officially unveiled by Martyn McEnery, the breeder of Red Rum.
