Ireland's Olympic boxers are ready to go

Ireland's team of boxers have all learned their fate after the draw for their first round bouts took place in Beijing today.

Captain Kenny Egan will lead the way as he's first in action, taking on Julius Jackson of the Virgin Islands in the light-heavyweight division.

Heavily fancied bantamweight John-Joe Nevin takes on Algerian Abdelhalim Ourradi on Tuesday, while Johnny Joyce goes head-to-head with Gyala Kate of Hungary.

Mightweight Darren Sutherland and light-flyweight Paddy Barnes have both been given byes.

The boxers visited the venue where they will fight over the coming days and head coach Billy Walsh was suitably impressed.

'It made the hairs stand on the back of my neck and the place was empty. I can only imagine what the atmosphere will be like when it is full. It is a magnificent venue,' he said.
