Ireland’s Ellen Keane finished seventh in the final of the SM9 200m individual medley in two minutes 42.21 seconds at the London 2012 Paralympics.

South Africa’s Natalie du Toit justified favouritism for the event, clocking 2:34.22 as she won her third gold medal of the Games.

The Dublin swimmer had a positive start and after the first 50m she was in a strong fourth position.

She then progressed to third with 100m gone looked to be an excellent contender for the podium.

However, she faded badly in the closing 100m as Great Britain’s Stephanie Millward and Louise Watkin filled the minor places.

Keane will be back in action on Saturday in the hope of progressing in her strongest event, the 100m breaststroke.
