Ireland failed to medal in the F11/12 shot put this morning, with Ailish Dunne and Nadine Lattimore placing 12th and 18th respectively.

Dunne threw 6.67m, while Lattimore managed 6.06m.

Assunta Legnante of Italy won gold with a world-record throw of 16.74.

China's Tang Hongxia won silver, and her compatriot Zhang Liangmin won bronze.

Speaking in the mixed zone after the event, Dunne commented: "I am not happy with my distance, but I am coming away from this with a bigger appetite to compete than ever before.

"It was very difficult out there as I wasn’t able to hear a thing.

"Normally I like to keep aware of what my opposition does, but in the noise that was very difficult."
