There will be no official event in Dublin to mark the homecoming of the Irish Olympic team on Monday.

Many members of Team Ireland are due to return to Dublin airport at lunchtime on Monday and efforts had been made to organise an event in the city centre.

However, the Olympic Council of Ireland informed Dublin City Council that most of the athletes were anxious to get home as soon as they could.

Athletes may take part in a press conference at Dublin Airport on their return, and then travel home individually.

Efforts are underway to have an event later - possibly at Farmleigh House in the Phoenix Park. However there has been no confirmation.

President Michael D Higgins has already invited the team to a reception at Áras an Uachtaráin at a later date.

It is also unclear whether there will be a public event in Bray, Co Wicklow, on Monday evening when Katie Taylor returns home.

Taylor is thought to want to spend time with her extended family and friends and then participate in a public event later.
