Melanie Nocher (27) posted her Olympic qualifying time for the 200m backstroke at the European Championships in Hungary.

Nocher, who will be going to her second Olympics having previously competed in Beijing four years ago, needed to lower her own Irish record in the 200m backstroke to dip under the A standard required.

And the Holywood, Co Down, woman duly delivered, finishing fifth in the final in a time of 2:10.75, just .09 of a second inside the mark.

The 5 foot 10 inch Nocher is based with Loughborough University, but her home club is Ards SC. She is in her final year of a sports science degree at Loughborough.

Her coach at Loughborough is Ian Armiger, while her home coach is Nelson Lindsey.

Nocher's website can be found here.

First in Olympic action on 2 August in the heats. Start time is 10am.
