Claire Lambe and Sinead Lynch reflected on "an incredible journey" after they finished a superb sixth in the women's lightweight double sculls in Rio.
The pair were disappointed after failing to capture a medal in this afternoon's final but nonetheless spoke of their pride at reaching at Olympic final.
In an emotional interview with RTÉ Sport, Lynch said: "It's just such an honour. We've shown that Irish women can reach Olympic finals and that's wonderful.
"But what I'm sad about now is the end of a fantastic journey, it's just been absolutely brilliant, these last 18 months with Claire and I can't believe that's over now."
Although she turns 40 next month, Lynch insisted she would keep rowing as long as she could continue with Lambe, who added: "These are tears that it is the end of the journey because it has been amazing, and just knowing that everyone has been watching at home and how proud they are of both of us..."
