Colin Griffin (30), from Ballinarmore, Co Leitrim, splits his time between Limerick and Saluzzo, Italy, and is coached by Sandro Damilano.
Griffin has a family athletics background. His father was athletics manager at the Moscow Olympics and a former president of the national federation. His mother Patricia won many athletic titles.
He is heading into his second Olympics after a season of high and lows, yet with the satisfaction of gaining Olympic qualification in Russia recently.
