RTÉ have announced the appointment of Ryle Nugent to the position of RTÉ Group Head of Sport, following a public competition.
He will be directly responsible for RTÉ Sport across all of its output areas – television, radio, publishing and news, with immediate effect.
Nugent, who has been Deputy Head of Television Sport since 2006, succeeds Glen Killane who has recently been appointed Managing Director of RTÉ Television.
The Dublin native began working in RTÉ Television Sport in 1994 and has edited a wide range of sports programmes.
From 2000 to 2003, he was executive editor of The Premiership, also holding the position of executive editor of Rugby from 2001 to 2004.
The 39-year-old was executive editor of RTÉ TV’s coverage of World Cup 2002 and Euro 2004. He was appointed as commissioning editor of RTÉ TV Sport in 2004 before becoming Deputy Head of TV Sport two years later.
RTÉ Sport is the largest free-to-air provider of sport in Ireland and is the market leader across all of its platforms. In an increasingly competitive market, it has retained a large portfolio of sports events and tournaments for the Irish public.
