Ken McGrath has been appointed selector to the Waterford senior hurling team following the departure of selector Nicky Cashin.

Manager Michael Ryan confirmed to WLRfm Sport that the former All Star will join the backroom team.

McGrath will be in situ for his new role for this weekend’s Allianz Hurling League Division 1A match with Galway at Pearse Stadium.

Ryan added that Cashin’s departure from the Déise setup was due to personal reasons, and that Cashin departs on good terms with the team and management.

McGrath played centre-back for Waterford from 1996 until 2011, winning four Munster SHC titles, and one National Hurling League crown during that time. He was also a three-time All Star during that period.

The Mount Sion clubman also won six Waterford club titles and one Munster club title.
