Having beaten France 3-0 on Saturday, Ireland continued their impressive preparations for the Olympic Qualifiers with a similar success in Beerschot today.

Ireland were on the offensive early with Nikki Evans getting in a deflection which was comfortably saved by the French keeper. Chloe Watkins was next on the attack and she displayed great skill to evade two defenders, but her reverse shot just skimmed the top of the bar.

Ireland continued to dominate the attacks but France were not without their chances. However, Irish goalkeeper Louisa Healy kept all France’s chances at bay.

Ireland's persistence finally paid dividends when a Lizzie Colvin strike off the set-piece was deflected into the net by a French stick. And so, as on Saturday, Ireland went in at half-time with a one-goal advantage.

Ireland began the second half with intent, immediately looking to increase their lead with attacks coming through from the midfield and forward line. And reward was not long in coming as they doubled their lead when Michelle Harvey’s low drag flick crashed into the backboard.

Ireland added a third when Nicci Daly gave a superb pass to Nikki Evans, who provided the finish it richly deserved.

Ireland had more chances in a game which they dominated but, after a second 3-0 win over France, the girls in green will feel confident heading into the final game in Beerschot tomorrow morning.
