Rory McIlroy will play in the Scottish Open for the first time in five years this July.
The decision means a change to McIlroy's usual routine of taking the week off to practice on links terrain before the Open Championship, which this year will be staged at Royal Liverpool.
Last year at Muirfield, McIlroy missed the cut at the Open and failed to make an impression over the closing two rounds in the previous two years at Royal Lytham and Royal St Georges.
McIlroy said that the achievement of Phil Mickelson in winning the Scottish Open and Open Championship in back to back weeks last year proved to him that playing the week before the third major was good preparation.
The Scottish Open will be staged at Royal Aberdeen from July 10-13.
Mickelson will defend the title.
