Waterford's Kevin Phelan claimed his European Tour card for next season follwing the completion of the qualifying school in Spain.

Phelan birdied the last at the Stadium Course at PGA Catalunya for a round of 69 that left him in a tie for 17th and comfortably among those eligible to play on Tour in 2014. 

In total, the former Walker Cup player played six rounds of golf this week, and in five of those he managed an under-par score.

Of the other Irish competitors, David Higgins from Kerry, carded a level-par 72 to leave him on level par. Donegal's Ruiadhri McGee finished with a 73, for a three over finish.

Both Higgins and McGee will play on the Challenge Tour next year.
