Daan Huizing held his nerve to win a play-off at Galgorm Castle to secure the Northern Ireland Open Challenge presented by Clannah and XJET.
The Dutch golfer held a six-shot lead going into the final round but posted a three-over 74, resulting in a play-off with former Ryder Cup player Oliver Wilson, who posted 67 to equal Huizing’s -13 total.
Amateur Dermot McElroy and Jonathan Caldwell were best of the Irish finishing in a tie for ninth place on six under, while Mark Murphy posted five under to share 17th place.
Huizing said: “This has just been an amazing week. The tournament has been great and to play in front of so many people was really cool. Playing in front of crowds like this makes the win even more special, and hopefully I can keep playing well and win a card for The European Tour next year.”
Huizing’s win of €27,500 moved him to sixth place in the Challenge Tour rankings –the top 15 players secure European Tour cards at the end of the season.
