Leona Maguire backed up her opening round 69 as a professional to go two shots better today at the ShopRite LPGA Classic in New Jersey to sit four shots off leader Celine Herbin.

The 23-year-old impressed yesterday with three birdies and a single bogey, and improved further today with five birdies and an eagle at the par-five ninth hole to move to six-under par going into tomorrow’s final round.

The threat of lightning suspended play for a period, but Maguire will take great confidence from the way she navigated around the course.

"I felt pretty calm," Maguire said of her first two rounds as a pro. "It doesn’t feel all that different, really. Just playing my own game."

"I wanted to give myself a chance going into tomorrow."

Her twin Lisa, who struggled to an opening round 84, was two over through four holes before her second round was halted.
