The latest golfer to enjoy success on the world stage is 19-year-old Dubliner Patrick Morgan, who recently finished runner-up at the US Blind Golfers Open.
Assisted by his father Pat, Patrick is certainly making his mark in the sport and would like to see other visually impaired people who are interested in the sport to take it up.
"My visual impairment is RP, so I have tunnel vision and night blindness as well," he told RTÉ Sport.
"Id be the blind person and the guide would be the sight so he'd see how far it is away and tell me the club to use... and I'd hit it. He gets the blame if there's anything wrong!"
