Dublin footballer Jason Whelan has received an eight-week ban following an incident in the O’Byrne Cup match against DCU two weeks ago.

A statement from Leinster GAA said that the ban was imposed for “inflicting injury recklessy [sic]”, in accordance with Rule 7.2 Category III (vii).

The Dublin county board and the Ballymun Kickhams player have indicated to the Leinster Council that they will accept the proposed sanction, the statement added.

Whelan should be eligible for selection for Dublin's final two rounds of the Allianz League, at home to Mayo on 29 March and away to Tyrone on 6 April.
