Ursula Jacob found it hard to take in Wexford’s three in-a-row success after she inspired the Model County to victory over Cork in the All-Ireland Senior Camogie final in Croke Park.
Jacob was the outstanding performer for Wexford once again as she bagged 2-07 in the 3-13 to 3-06 win for JJ Doyle’s side.
She told RTÉ: “It is unbelievable. It hasn’t sunk in yet. I’m in a daze. We won but I can’t believe it. It was so tough out there today. One minute it was a goal for Cork, another it was for us, then a goal for them.
“The important thing was we kept going, we never let Cork get ahead of us in the second half" - Ursula Jacob
“We kept responding to their scores and even when they got on top of us just before half-time, we still responded well in the second-half.
“We knew the second half was going to be even tougher again. The important thing was when we went in at half-time we kept pushing on.
“We said we had 30 minutes to go out and show everyone how good we are and I think we did that today. We deserve it, we worked so hard.”
Jacob has been an inspirational player for Wexford on the way to the historic three titles in succession and today’s 13-point haul in the showpiece occasion in Camogie adds to what has already been a spectacular career so far for the 27-year-old.
She played down the personal achievement: “I don’t mind who scores as long as we win and Wexford win. At the end of the day it doesn’t matter who got the scores.
“If i got them, if Una (Leacy) got them, if Katriona (Parrack) got them, I’m delighted with the whole team performance and the panel. We are a great bunch of girls.”
