Joe Hagan and Dessie Reynolds were to the fore as Longford maintained their Division 3 status thanks to a comfortable win over Laois.
The result means that Laois drop to Division 4 after a poor campaign culminated with yet another home defeat.
Laois picked up just one point from four home games and you have to go back to February 2020, a stretch of eight games, for their last league win in Portlaoise.
It means back-to-back relegations and a disappointing start to Billy Sheehan's managerial term.
For Longford boss Billy O'Loughlin it was a bittersweet return to his native county but his side were fully deserving of victory.
Dessie Reynolds and Joe Hagan were hugely impressive for the winners.
Reynolds scored 1-02 from the half-back line while Hagan hit 1-06 from play in a man-of-the-match display.
Longford did most of the early running and though Mark Barry struck for a fine goal for Laois midway through the half, Longford made full use of the extra man after Sean O’Flynn was sin-binned in the 25th minute and led 1-10 to 1-05 at half-time.
Laois hit a mountain of wides in the second half and Reynolds got their second goal in the 48th minute to make it safe.
