The Galway intermediate football championship begins on 31 July.
Among the clubs making their final preparations for the big return is Oileáin Árann, a team founded in 1996 and based on the Aran Islands.
They play their home games on Inis Mór and Inis Oirr. However an away match can be an all-day event, with some of the footballers having to take time off work.
Occasionally the players and management have to dig deep in to their own pockets to cover expenses.
RTÉ Sport reporter Mike McCartney travelled west to watch an Oileáin Árann training session and learn about the unique challenges they face to compete.
This report was first aired on RTÉ Radio 1's Sunday Sport on 19 July, 2020.
