Waterford's Philip Mahony has announced his retirement from inter-county hurling.

The 28-year-old defender had starred for the Déise for the last decade and helped them to the All-Ireland final in 2017.

A statement on the Waterford GAA Twitter account read: "Philip Mahony has tonight announced his retirement from intercounty hurling.

"Waterford GAA would like to thank Philip for his commitment and dedication to Waterford Hurling over the last number of years. We wish him all the best for the future."

The Ballygunner man won the Allianz League in 2015 and had three All Star nominations to his name.
