Ireland's handball Compromise Rules squad gathered in Croke Park today for a final training session ahead of their trip to a major tournament in the Basque area of Spain this weekend.

The recently crowned All-Ireland Softball Champion, Eoin Kennedy, will lead a panel of players to travel to Azkoitia tomorrow to play a hybrid game of Irish hardball and mano, a form of pelota, in a major tournament televised to millions of viewers throughout northern Spain.

Dessie Keegan, Joe McCann, Michael Gregan, and James Doyle complete the squad.

One of the highlights of the famous Festival of St Andrew will see the Irish players pitched against their Basque counterparts in a Davis Cup-style contest on Friday.

Speaking at Croke Park, Dublin's Eoin Kennedy said: "We're all very excited. I was there in 2002 and the people are fanatical about the pelota sport with thousands watching the games."
