Kildare 2-11 Dublin 0-12
Kildare claimed their second Leinster trophy in three years after defeating Dublin in a bizarre Leinster final replay at Croke Park, yesterday. But who would have guessed it at half time with Kildare trailing a rampant Dublin team by six points. For the first 35minutes Dublin played great first time football and were scoring freely thanks to some tireless forward movement, they looked the hungrier and Kildare simply couldn't match Dublin's competitiveness and looked dead and buried until the second half began.
Within 2 minutes of the restart Earley and Fennin both scored goals to immediately cancel out Dublin's advantage and set Kildare on their way. Padraig Brennan put Kildare in front and a shell-shocked Dublin hit wide after wide while Brennan and company stretched Kildare’s lead. It wasn’t until the 25th minute of the restart that Dublin registered their one and only score of the second half, a fact made all the more hard to believe considering they performed so well in the first half. Credit though, goes to Kildare who battled back and took their chance while Dublin offered little resistance after the goals went in.
