Clare 0-8 Kerry 3-15
Kerry cruised into an All-Ireland Senior Football Championship semi-final meeting with Armagh this afternoon after convincingly beating Clare in Limerick. Paidi O Se's side demonstrated all the passion and style of a team hungry to win an All-Ireland title.
It was a positive and flamboyant display by the Kerry men, against a Clare side which gave their all, but ultimately were no match for such ruthless opponents. Clare started brightly and led 0-2 to 0-1 after nine minutes. But Kerry then took a vice-like grip on the game and a scoring burst of 1-6 between the tenth and twenty eighth minutes proved crucial. A goal from Liam Hassett on 27 minutes and good points from such players as Dara O Cinneide, Noel Kennelly, Aodhan MacGearailt and John Crowley gave the men from the Kingdom a lead of 1-6 to 0-2 by the 28th minute. Clare responded with two good points before half-time, leaving the score at 1-7 to 0-4 at the break.
But, the six points gap proved too substantial for Clare to make up, particularly as Kerry seemed to control the Clare defence. 14 minutes into the second half, Clare had reduced the gap to five points. But a point from Crowley and a goal from MacGearailt started to put the game beyond the grasp of the men from the Banner county. Crowley scored a third goal for Kerry in the 33rd minute of the second half, and from then on there was no catching them.
