Armagh 0-13 Fermanagh 0-12

Ulster champions Armagh continued towards another provincial title today with a hard earned victory over Fermanagh. The champions were under much early pressure and lost star forward Diarmuid Marsden after 10 minutes to injury. The Gallagher cousins, Rory and Raymond were making inroads and pulled the challengers into a 0-6 to 0-5 half-time lead despite Armagh making a mini comeback before the break.

The Orchard County had an uphill battle but the running game Fermanagh were playing was bound to have effects and along with Armagh’s superior physical strength this combined to eat further into the Fermanagh lead. The Armagh midfield came more into the game and the McEntee brothers, Tony and John, from AIB Club champions Crossmaglen, were having a major influence.

Scores were hard to come by however and the majority were as a result of free kicks rather than flowing forward play. It was a similar situation at the other end and Fermanagh forced a number of scoreable frees from an Armagh defence that was never comfortable. Fermanagh couldn’t capitalise on all their chances though and the champions did just enough to hold on for a one point victory.
