Peter Canavan scored 11 points in the Ulster Senior Football final as Down capitulated completely on a scoreline of 0-23 to 1-05.

The conditions were less than perfect for good football as the rain bucketed down in Clones but Tyrone got into the game straight away. Eoin Mulligan opened the scoring for Tyrone with a great point. Peter Canavan pointed two frees in a row before Liam Doyle answered for Down by converting a free himself when Ronan Murtagh was fouled by Ryan McMenamin.

Then followed a period of excellent football from Tyrone and from Eoin Mulligan and Peter Canavan in particular. Canavan pointed from a free on the eighth minute, followed by a point from Conor Gormley after some good play by Tyrone. This was followed by two further points from Canavan, answered by a point from a free from Down through Michael Walsh. Mulligan then pointed after Canavan found him in space with a free kick. Canavan then scored from a free and a 45.

Down then had a sustained period of possession from which they amassed only one point, a Liam Doyle free, and three wides in very kickable positions. Tyrone missed two very good goal chances both worked through Mulligan and Canavan but were still well ahead at the end when Kevin Hughes came up from the back to score Tyrone's eleventh point.

The second half continued in the same vein as the first. Tyrone's points came from Brian Dooher, Peter Canavan, Eoin Mulligan, Kevin Hughes and Sean Cavanagh before, in the 51st minute, Down scored their first score from play in the game through Liam Doyle. It was quickly cancelled out by Peter Canavan's ninth point of the match.

As Tyrone continued to play some great football Down began to lose discipline. Martin Cole was sent off for a second yellow card after kicking Mulligan on the ground. Canavan kicked over the resulting free kick. Only minutes later Dan Gordon was sent off for elbowing Conor Gormley after a melee in front of the Tyrone goal. Ryan McMenamin pointed followed by a score by substitute Frank McGuigan and another free from Canavan. Down got a goal through Ronan Murtagh but it wasn't enough to even improve the look of the scoreline as Ger Cavlan easily knocked over the last score of the match for Tyrone.
