Offaly defeated a very spirited Clare side today in Cusack Park, Ennis, in the second round of the Bank of Ireland qualifiers on a scoreline of 1-12 to 1-08.
Pre-match predictions had Offaly running all over Clare from the start, however, the Banner men started well and were seeing a lot more of the ball than the men of the Faithful County.
Clare were in front for much of the first half and forward Odran O’Dwyer was on fire. Offaly, however, were not favourites for no reason and came storming back with a goal from Niall McNamee.
In the second half Offaly opened the scoring and began to re-establish their dominance. Although they lost Finbar Cullen when he was sent off after fouling Mark O’Connell, they managed to hold out to progress to the next round.
