Carlow 2-7 Sligo 2-14
Sligo turned on the heat in the second-half to eventually emerge with a deserved seven-point victory in the second-round qualifier. With Paul Durcan and Keiran Quinn gaining a firm grip in midfield, Sligo cruised into a 1-13 to 0-6 after the break and never looked back.
The opening 35 minutes saw Sligo take control following a tense opening spell to lead 0-4 to 0-1 after 16 minutes. Carlow then enjoyed their best spell with points from frees from Willie Quinlan reducing the deficit.
But it was the slick Sligo attack who served notice of what was to follow with a superb string of points from Paul Taylor (2) and Dessie Sloyane giving the Yeats County a 0-8 to 0-3 lead at the break.
Sean Davey scored a goal 15 minutes into the second half but any hopes of a Carlow comeback quickly evaporated when three minutes later Sloyane moved quickly onto a John McPartland pass to flick the ball over advancing goalkeeper Paudge McGrath to give his side a 13-point lead.
Sligo took their foot off the pedal but even then Carlow had to wait until the closing minutes for their two goals. The first was a fine finish from John McGrath after 66 minutes before full-forward Mark Carpenter added another in injury-time.
