Hurling supporters should give equal respect and support to camogie, according to the president of the Camogie Association.

Speaking at the launch of the 110th camogie championship, Aileen Lawlor called on hurling fans to come to a camogie game this season and said that camogie was “your game every bit as much as it is our game”.

The association has launched a new campaign to raise awareness and bring the game to a wider audience.

Focusing on the catchphrase “our game your game”, the campaign aims to highlight the athleticism of camogie players.

“We want all hurling and GAA fans and the media to look at our game and at the powerful, strong, athletic women who play it with new eyes,” Lawlor said.

“Focus, determination, skill and commitment are the qualities of all high performing athletes. Every Camogie player in this year's Liberty Insurance All Ireland Championship knows that.”

The camogie association also announced details of a new championship loyalty card called “Cairde Camogie”.

The ticket allows access to all rounds of the camogie championship, and costs €40. County boards will keep 20% of all loyalty ticket sales. The ticket can be purchased via tickets.ie, GAA outlets and Centra and Supervalu stores.
