Katie Taylor has appeared to confirm that her next opponent will be Delfine Persoon - setting up a rematch of the closely fought 2019 bout, which the Bray woman shaded.

The undisputed lightweight world champion had already been confirmed on the Dillian Whyte v Alexander Povetkin card for 22 August at promoter Eddie Hearn's house but until now the opponent had not been announced.

The 2012 Olympic gold medallist was due to face former five-weight world champion Amanda Serrano in May but the arrangement fell through.

Earlier today Hearn tweeted a link to the the Persoon fight last summer and Taylor subsequently commented, "Let's go!!".

"We are working hard on the Taylor versus Persoon rematch for August 22," Hearn said on Sky Sports.

"Katie wants the biggest fights out there and when [Amanda] Serrano pulled out, Katie immediately asked about the Persoon rematch.

"The first fight was one of the best I've ever seen live and as a fan I would love to see it again. Whyte versus Povetkin and Taylor versus Persoon 2 is an epic double header - let's see if we can get it done."

Taylor edged the fight at Madison Square Garden last year with Belgian Persoon storming out of the ring following the judges' decision.

Her manager Filiep Tampere subsequently said the result was "scandalous" and "a shame for the sport."
