Ireland is guaranteed at least three silver medals at the European Junior Championships in Anapa, Russia.

Frankie Cleary, Martin Stokes and John Joyce recorded a hat-trick of unanimous decisions in today’s semi-finals to book their places in Saturday’s finals.

Cleary (Olympic BC, Galway)  beat Azeri light-fly Umid Rustamov and Stokes (Mulhuddart BC, Dublin) followed that up with victory over Russian bantamweight Anatoly Zhirnov.

Joyce (Sr Michael’s Athy, Kildare) saw off Hungary’s Mark Kontrecz in the light-welter class to complete an excellent day for Irish boxing.

Cleary will meet Bulgaria’s Daniel Asenov tomorrow and Stokes is in against England’s Ryan Garner. Joyce faces Russia’s Shakhin Aslanov for the 63kg gold.
