Irish boxers Joe Ward and Sean McComb both enjoyed convincing wins in their second round bouts at the World Championships in Kazakhstan today.

Ward pummelled Poland’s Mateusz Tryc, with his dominance resulting in a unanimous decision in favour of the young light-heavyweight.

The Moate fighter will face Norbert Harcsa in the third round after the Hungarian saw off Australian Dylan Hardy.

McComb registered a 30-27, 30-26, 30-26 unanimous decision against Gildas Bangana of the Central African Republic in Almaty.

McComb will face Azerbaijan’s Elvin Isayev in his next bout on Tuesday.

Isayev, who won the European Under-22 Championships in Russia last year, saw off the challenge of eighth seed Vazgen Safaryants of Belarus.

Paddy Barnes, Michael Conlan, Jason Quigley and Tommy McCarthy have also progressed to the third round.

Conlan, Quigley and McCarthy will be in action tomorrow.
