Ireland’s Katie Taylor remains on course for a fifth consecutive title at the European Union Championships after recording a convincing victory over Finland’s Mira Potkonen in Hungary.

Taylor’s relentless pressure resulted in Potkonen taking a standing count in the fourth round as the Bray woman went on to claim a 3-0 verdict.

The 27-year-old lightweight will face Estelle Mosselly of France after she inflicted a close split decision defeat on Britain’s Natasha Jonas, who was Taylor’s quarter-final opponent during last summer's Olympics.

Heavyweight Leanne Murphy outclassed Croatia's Dainjela Vernic 3-0 to also reach the Saturday finals.

Murphy will now go head-to-head with either Sylwia Kusiak of Poland or Turkey’s Emine Bozduman for gold tomorrow.

Earlier this afternoon, Claire Grace had to settle for bronze after she lost out to Erika Guerrier of France in the welterweight class.

Ireland’s female boxers will be taking home a record breaking 15 medals from Hungary.
