Belfast middleweight Eamon O'Kane helped his new side, Milano Thunder, to a 3-1 victory over David Oliver Joyce's Istanbulls in Friday's European group match in the World Series of Boxing.

The win lifts Milano Thunder two points clear of John Joe Nevin's Paris United, who have a match in hand over the Italian side.

Following a closely contested opening frame, O'Kane, the current Commonwealth champion, rocked Onder Sipal of Turkey with a right hook en route to a unanimous decision.

World champion Dominico Valentino and Vincenzo Picardi also recorded wins for Milano Thunder.

Speaking after the fight, O'Kane said he was delighted with the victory.

‘This was my first match in the WSB and I think I showed everybody what my qualities are as a boxer. The public was fantastic tonight and gave me a lot of power to fight with more energy.

'I arrived in Milan a few days ago but everybody in the team and in the staff welcomed me and helped me to achieve tonight's victory.’
