Today With Sean O Rourke Tuesday 9 June 2015
Lead in Water
Environment Minister Alan Kelly is to bring a plan to Cabinet this morning to deal with the issue of lead in water pipes which could affect up to two hundred thousand Irish homes and properties, including schools and workplaces.
Irish Water is not expected to pay for the repairs of these pipes, but instead a small grant will be given to householders on low incomes. It is expected that most homeowners will have to shoulder the bulk of the cost themselves.
Joining Sean was Paul Melia, environment correspondent at the Irish Independent.

It's All in Your Head - Imaginary Illness
Word association, ‘psychosomatic’, what would you say? Chancer? Hypochondriac? Well you might be forgiven for thinking so, for as a society we have a very dim view of illnesses that present in people with no medical explanation. We assume they are in some way putting it on or are perhaps flawed in some way.
And it seems even medical professionals have a history of denigrating such patients. One who doesn’t however is Irish woman Suzanne O’Sullivan who is a consultant neurologist who over two decades has developed a keen interest in getting to the bottom of these psychosomatic illnesses. She has just written the excellently titled book:“It’s All in Your Head: True Stories of Imaginary Illness” and she joined Sean this morning.
Early Release of Garda Killer
Six years ago, Garda Gary McLoughlin died as a result of the injuries he sustained when Martin McDermott, who had 91 previous convictions, rammed into his patrol car in Burt, County Donegal.
Last night, McDermott was released from prison 21 months early, and having served just 14 days extra, on top of his sentence, for a previous escape from prison the local community, as well as McLoughlin’s family, has reacted with outrage.
Brendan O’Connor, Donegal spokesperson for the Garda Representative Association joined Sean on the line.
