The Rolling Wave Sunday 3 May 2020
Tonight's Rolling Wave focuses on the music of Julia Clifford. Julia Clifford was born in Sliabh Luachra in 1914. She was taught to play the fiddle by the Sliabh Luachra fiddle master Pádraig O'Keeffe and she and her brother Denis became two of his most famous pupils. She lived in London for most of her life where she played music in dance halls and pubs with her husband John Clifford and her son Billy. In her later years she lived in Thetford in Norfolk and she spent many happy years playing at folk clubs and folk festivals all around England.
Tonight's programme features the voices of Matt Cranitch, Billy Clifford, Geraldine O'Callaghan, Aoife O'Keeffe and Julia Clifford herself.
The Rolling Wave would like to thank Matt Cranitch for generously allowing us to use excerpts of interviews he did with Julia in the 1990s.
