On tonight's show we bring you the 2nd part of a programme recorded recently at the William Kennedy Piping Festival in Armagh.  Tonight's guests are Mohsen Sharifian and Mohammed Jaberi from Iran, Nico Berardi from Italy and Brighde Chaimbeul from Scotland. The last tune on the show is played by some of the students from Club na bPíobairí in Armagh.

On tonight's programme we'll be playing tracks from two new cds, 'Sligo Made' by Kevin Burke and 'Away On Up The Road' by Aidan Connolly and John Daly. We'll also be playing two of Máire Ni Choilm's songs from her winning performance at Corn Uí Riada which took place at Oireachtas na Gaeilge last weekend.  And finally we'll be remembering the late Gay Byrne with some tracks from the Dubliners Late Late Show Tribute.

Two major figures in sean nós singing in the 20th century- Joe Heaney and Seán Ac Dhonncha- were both from Carna in Connemara and both born in October 1919. On tonight's programme we mark their centenary and celebrate their music with help from Dr. Síle Denvir from DCU and Seán Ac Dhonncha's son, Macdara.

Tonight on the programme we'll be talking to Scottish singer Mary Ann Kennedy about her own music, the connections between Irish and Scottish music and 25 years of 'Sruth na Maoile' on RTÉ Raidió na Gaeltachta.  This programme which is presented by Mary Ann and Sean Ó hÉanaigh is celebrating 25 years on air with a gala concert in Glór in Ennis on the 5th of October. We also play some music from Altan who are doing some gigs in Ireland in October and we remember Gavin Ralston who passed away during the week with a track he recorded with Aogán Lynch and Michelle O'Brien.

Our special guest on tonight's show is fiddle player Martin Hayes. The Rolling Wave met him in Kilkenny to talk about the upcoming Masters of Tradition Festival in Bantry House.

We spoke about that festival as well as his latest work with Brooklyn Rider and the very first recording he made for Gael Linn in 1978.

At the recent Scoil Samhraidh Willie Clancy The Rolling Wave met English folk musicians John and Katie Howson.  John recently released a fascinating cd of sean nós singing 'Tabhair Mo Ghrá go Conamara - Bring My Love to Connemara' on his label Veteran Records and he talks about the story behind these recordings. They also talk about English Folk Music and the connections and differences between their music and Irish Traditional Music. 
We also play two tracks from Gay McKeon's brand new cd of solo piping 'The Turning of the Geese'.

On this weeks programme we'll be listening to the 2nd part of a concert recorded in honour of Séamus Ennis at the Séamus Ennis Arts Centre in Naul, Co. Dublin.  The programme features songs from Caitríona Ní Cheannabháin, poetry from Dermot Bolger and tunes from Paddy Glackin and Robbie Hannan.

Tonight on the Rolling Wave we're marking the centenary of the birth of Séamus Ennis with a special concert recorded in the Séamus Ennis Arts Centre in Naul, Co. Dublin.  The concert will be broadcast this week and next week, May 12th on The Rolling Wave.  Tonight's guests are pipers Ronan Browne, Padraic Mac Mathúna, Jimmy O'Brien Moran and Sorcha Ní Scolaí.

On tonight's programme we bring you the first in a series of three programmes marking the centenary of the birth of Seamus Ennis. Tonight's programme will feature some of the singers and musicians collected by Séamus Ennis including Willie Clancy, Pádraig O'Keefe and Elizabeth Cronin. 

We also speak to Ríonach Uí Ógáin, editor of Seamus Ennis's diaries from his days with the Folklore Commission.

Tonight's Rolling Wave features music from Consairtín 2018- a concert with Pádraig Rynne, Tara Breen and Elaine Hogan. Just a flavour of the kind of music which might be played at this year's Consairtín Festival in Ennis between the 25th and the 28th of April. All the details on 

The Rolling Wave also went to the launch of public access to ITMA's Ephemera collection. This collection has been organised over the past 18 months or so by Treasa Harkin from ITMA and a group of dedicated volunteers and there's lots of interesting material to be found there.

On St. Patrick's Day Niall Vallely's Concerto for Concertina and Orchestra was premiered  in the National Concert Hall with Niall on concertina and the RTÉ National Symphony Orchestra conducted by David Brophy.  On this Sunday's Rolling Wave Niall talks about that piece, of pushing the boundaries of the Concertina and about growing up in a house full of music in Armagh.

On tonight's Rolling Wave we talk about women in Irish Traditional Music. A number of weeks ago a symposium on that topic took place in NUIG. It was organised by the Department of Irish Studies in NUIG in conjunction with Fairplé.  Twenty two speakers took part in the symposium and one of those was Verena Commins from NUIG who gave a talk entitled 'The Man and his Music' and Verena joins us tonight on the show to explain the ideas behind that talk.  

On foot of that symposium, The Rolling Wave is begining an occasional series of interviews and profiles of women musicians called The Woman and her Music and as part of that we hear an archive interview with fiddle player Liz Carroll from an RTÉ Radio 1 series called 'Cherish the Ladies'. 

And finally, The Kilfenora Céilí Band will be launching their new cd 'Both Sides Now' in the National Concert Hall on March 18th and we hear a couple of tracks from that cd on the programme.

On tonight's programme we travel from Estonia to Galway in the company of a range of musicians. First up is an interview with a group of Irish and Estonian musicians who first met when the Irish musicians travelled to Estonia on tour in August 1988.  Neilidh Mulligan, Sean Garvey and Jaak and Kart Johanson remember that first trip and the effect it had on all of them. 

Later on in the programme we speak to Claire Keville who has just released a beautiful cd called 'Irish Music on the Harpsichord'.
