In the Poetry Programme on 7 November presenter Rick O’Shea hears about special issues of the literary journal ‘Irish Pages’ dedicated to Seamus Heaney; poet Jane Clarke reads from her very popular debut collection; and Laureate na nÓg Eoin Colfer compiles a new book of stories and poems for children.
When in 2014 ‘Irish Pages’ published a volume simply entitled ‘Heaney’, it was a sell-out – very unusual for a literary journal. They have now published a follow-up volume, ‘After Heaney’, examining the poet’s legacy. Editor Chris Agee joins Rick to talk about the two special issues.
Also somewhat unusual for a debut poetry collection, Jane Clarke’s ‘The River’, published earlier this year, took the Irish poetry world by storm, managing the rare feat of topping the weekly bestseller list in at least one major Irish bookshop and winning high praise from readers and critics alike. She joins Rick to talk about her journey into poetry and to read from the new collection.
Finally, Laureate na nÓg Eoin Colfer has compiled a new book of stories and poems for children called ‘Once Upon A Place’. Rick goes along to the launch where he meets Eoin and two of the poets who have contributed to the book, Enda Wyley and Seamus Cashman.
