The John Murray Show Wednesday 18 June 2014
A lively mix of entertainment, human interest and lifestyle, presented by John Murray.
This morning John speaks to more of our World Cup Supporters Club members, on the line we have Edel Meenan for Honduras, Michael Nkeng for Cameroon & mother and daughter, Mary & Marlene Boissel for Ivory Coast.
It is said that Leitrim's John McKenna is one of the most influential figures in the world of traditional Irish flute music. John died in 1947 & his music has been remastered in a new CD collection by Sean Kilraine. Sean joins John for a chat & a performance with flute players Liam Kelly & Dave Sheridan.
They perform one of John McKenna's - 'The Rollicking Irishman'
Our Sports Underdogs where we follow a sports squad who've endured a bit of a bad run & now under John Murray Show tutelage aim to pull up their socks for their ongoing season. John went to Achill to meet with the Achill Rovers FC on the Atlantic fringes of Mayo last Thursday & brought along the 1990 World Cup hero Packie Bonner down for a training session with the lads.
John's next guest in studio is travel writer Mary Russell, as well used to the roads of Syria, Palestine & South Africa as she is to the tracks & trails of Ireland. This Friday she's heading to Millstreet to follow an interesting historical route, the middle bit of the old butter road from Killarney to Cork.
