The Business Saturday 19 December 2020
A weekly look at the world of business and personal finance with Richard Curran
We are joined by a man who has spent decades touring the world. Paddy Moloney of the Chieftains has six grammys, one Oscar and even a performance on The Great Wall of China to his name. These days, he's cooped up in his house in Dublin.
We all know the small petrol pumps dotted around the country on the edges of footpaths and the side of hilltops. Derek Mahon wrote about them in his poem. They've also inspired photographer Stephen Davison and he's penned this radio essay as an ode to petrol pumps.
Our next guests are very familiar with the kinds of petrol stations that Stephen loves. We're joined by Jen Tierney and Mick Dillon who drive trucks for a living.
We're joined by Mairtin MacConIomaire a lecturer in culinary arts in TU Dublin to look at the origins of some of our Christmas treats.
Neon lights in our towns and cities have been catching our attention over the years. First brought to Ireland in the 1940s 'Why go Bald?" and "The Happy Ring House" will be familiar to many. But it seems neon lights are enjoying something of a resurgence as Liam Geraghty has been finding out.
