Irish bumblebee populations have fallen to their lowest level since monitoring began, with a marked loss in critical native species, according to latest figures. Of our 98 native wild bee species, around one-third is now threatened with extinction. The declines are confirmed by the All-Ireland Bumblebee Monitoring Scheme co-ordinated by Dr Tomás Murray, senior ecologist at the National Biodiversity Data Centre in Co Waterford.
