The Willoughby Brothers

The Willoughby Brothers

We've a very packed studio this afternoon, as we're joined in studios by The Willoughby Brothers, the Celtic/folk group hailing from Coolboy, Co. Wicklow. The lads have been described as "six hunks of besuited manhood who line up like Westlife, harmonising on old Irish standards and do a line in teasing banter". They’ve performed all over the world at international festivals in the UK and as far away as the US and back home here have sang in Croke Park and at The Rose of Tralee. We're thrilled to be joined in studio this afternoon by Richie, Des, Sammy, Robbie, Johnny & Jerome Willoughby - along with their Dad Richard, who is celebrating his birthday today! They perform Where The Blarney Roses Grow, and Happy Birthday

Dating Advice From Avril Mulcahy

We're also joined in studio this afternoon by Avril Mulcahy, the modern day matchmaker whose book might just fix your dating dilemmas in time for St. Valentine's Day by bringing dating into the 21st century, blending traditional matchmaking with modern day technology, psychology and know how!

Go Get Him!: Everything You Need To Know To Create The Love You Want, by Avril Mulcahy, is published by Gill & Macmillan. The ISBN is 9780717165247 and the RRP is €12.99. For more information about the book, click here.

21 Years Of Riverdance

The seven-minute interval performance of Riverdance at the 1994 Eurovision Song Contest, at Dublin’s Point Theatre, changed the way that Irish dancing was seen by those here, and around the world.

As anyone who saw it will remember, Riverdance was a sensation. Its' co-creators Moya Doherty and John McColgan, set to work expanding it into a stage show. That it turn opened in Dublin almost exactly twenty years ago. John McColgan joins me on the line from Hong Kong, where Riverdance is currently on tour...

Riverdance has won the hearts of audiences from Ireland, to the US, to China:

Come Party With Marty!

Come Party With Marty!

As the very last week of our show gets underway, there's something we really want to do and that's to ask you, every single person who’s listening out there, "what are you up to next Friday afternoon?"

Whoever you are and wherever you are, we would absolutely love you to come and join us here on The Marty Morrissey Show, in the Radio Centre in Donnybrook in Dublin. We'll be celebrating our very last show, so let's go out with a bang and have our very own 'Marty Party' and we're promising you an afternoon full of fun, music, chat and lots of well-known guests from the world of entertainment and beyond.

And of course there would never be a 'Marty Party' without the man who came up with whole idea in the first place, and that's one of our country's leading satirists and impressionists, the truly fantastic Oliver Callan, who's just performed his sell out show at the Bord Gáis Energy Theatre to great acclaim - and Oliver has promised that he will be here too!  The Kilfenora Céilí Band will be getting the party going, and Marty and Brenda will be getting out there step dancing too.  We'd love you to join us!  Brenda will be bringing along a very special guest to the Marty Party: country music star Nathan Carter! And we’ll be announcing more fabulous music and brilliant guests as the week goes on.

You are all warmly invited to the 'Marty Party' here on the show this Friday, January 30th, and you're very welcome to come on your own or bring your friends and family along too. If you're free, and would like to come along, e-mail the show at morrissey@rte.ie or text us on 51551 (from 3pm - 4.30pm), and we'll get back in touch with you with all the details!
