Rick Stein

Rick Stein

Rick Stein has a very varied life involving lots of food and lots of travelling. He is famous for putting on the map the beautiful seaside town of Cornwall’s Padstow rechristened ‘Padstein’ by journalists because of the success of his numerous businesses there. His book Under a Mackerel Sky: A Memoir has just been published by Ebury Press.

Rick talks of his early life on the family farm in Oxfordshire, his father's death as a result of bipolar disease when he was only 17 and how he went to Australia when he was just 19. After he returned to England he set up a nightclub business and restaurant. The restaurant eventually won out and he began to get recognition as a chef specialising in seafood. His TV career began when he met Keith Floyd who presented one of his programmes from Rick's restaurant in Cornwall and things developed from there.

Stephanie Booth on Alzheimers

Stephanie Booth on Alzheimers

Alzheimer’s is something a lot of people fear and given that we’re all living a lot longer it’s likely that more and more of us will get it or other forms of dementia.

Steph Booth who is married to well known actor Tony Booth......father of Cherie Blair...and who many will remember from his role in from Till Death Do Us Part...  has been writing about her husband’s illness and their experience having only recently ‘come out’ about it despite having it for a little over 10 years.

Frankie Sheahan

Frankie Sheahan

Frankie Sheahan had a thriving sports career until he started having difficulty breathing and feeing like his heart was pounding more than it should be.

At the age of 30 he was diagnosed with a condition called atrial fibrillation. According to The Irish Heart Foundation more than three quarters of us have never heard about the condition even though it is the most common form of heart rhythm disorder. The charity has now secured the services of former Munster and Ireland rugby stalwart Frankie Sheahan to help educate the public on the risks associated with it.

The disorder usually has no symptoms, so most people don’t know they have it. However, warning signs can include palpitations, tiredness and shortness of breath. It’s more common as people get older, and it’s estimated more than 40,000 people over 50 years old in Ireland suffer from it; most are unaware. People with the condition have a five-fold increased risk of stroke.

He retired from rugby in 2009 after 14 successive years with Munster rugby making his debut for them in 1996. He wore the red jersey over 163 times, scoring over 20 tries. He has played for Ireland 29 times between 2000 and 2007, scoring 5 tries.

Frankie has two Heineken Cups Medals, 2 Celtic League Medals, one Celtic Cup and many Interpros to his merit. He also played on two Barbarians tours. He retired and is now the founder of Front Row, a company that specialises in sourcing high profile speakers for events, sports management, marketing and sponsorship.

Frankie has a high profile media career commentating with RTE television, Sky Sports and BBC radio. He has written for The Irish Times, The Examiner and The Sunday Independent. He also serves on the Board of Directors in Fáilte Ireland. He is chairing a subcommittee researching the strategy behind sports tourism in Ireland which includes Ireland’s bid for the Rugby World Cup in 2023

He is currently the Event Director of the inaugural Laya Healthcare Pendulum Summit, the first International Business and Self-Empowerment Summit in Ireland.
