Over the past ten weeks or so, we chatted at various times to different people working in different areas of the economy, of society and of sport about coping with restrictions & thought it would be a good time to check in again & see how they are gearing up for the great re-opening up. Researches across the world are discovering that a type of red seaweed, native to the Pacific but found in a similar form in small quantities here, could reduce methane emissions by between 40 and 98 per cent if fed to cattle. And trials on this are underway at the Bantry Marine Research Station in west Cork. A case of blue meets green, as Lorna Siggins reports.

While the big meat plants were in the news recently with a lot of workers contracting the Covid virus, small abatoirs & processors were also having their woes. Vets who do inspections in small abattoirs are paid by local authorities & the Food Safety Authority, but a dispute over payment meant this service was threatened to end this week. Reporter Suzanne Campbell has been looking into it & spoke to a farmer dependent on local abattoirs.
