The American author Maile Meloy's short story collection features a series of characters caught between opposing desires.
In 'O Tannenbaum' (Monday to Wednesday), a married couple and their young daughter pick up a couple of hitchhikers in the snow, whose names turn out to be Bonnie and Clyde.
In 'Nine' (Thursday & Friday), a nine-year-old girl's divorced mother becomes involved with a man who has a ten-year-old son.
