In the Poetry Programme on Sunday 16th May Olivia O'Leary's guests are Cork poet John Fitzgerald and Ireland Professor of Poetry Frank Ormsby.
John FitzGerald is University Librarian at University College Cork and started to write poetry around ten years ago, in his late forties. While still unpublished, he won the Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Prize for 2014. A pamphlet, First Cut, was published in 2017 by Southword Editions, and he joins Olivia to talk about his first full-length collection, The Time Being, published by The Gallery Press in June 2021.
John Fitzgerald
Frank Ormsby is the current Ireland Professor of Poetry. He was Editor of The Honest Ulsterman for twenty years, and has also edited Poetry Ireland Review and a number of anthologies. He speaks with Olivia from his home in Belfast about his first Ireland Chair of Poetry lecture and reads from his 2019 collection of poetry, The Rain Barrel, published by Bloodaxe Books.
